Why is healthy eating important in the aging process? It is important for so many reasons. Eating well and making healthy choices can help prevent many health problems as you age, such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and obesity. It may also keep these conditions from getting worse.
Your body needs a variety of nutrients to function at its best, including carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins, and minerals. A healthy diet should include the following.
A variety of vegetables including dark leafy greens like spinach, red-orange vegetables like carrots, and beans or peas.
A variety of fruits like blueberries, raspberries and apples. Try to choose fresh, whole fruits when you can.
Whole grains such as whole wheat, oats, or brown rice.
A variety of proteins including fish, lean meat, poultry, or eggs. You can also find good sources of protein in nuts, beans, quinoa or soy products.
Low-fat dairy, such as low-fat milk, cheese, or yogurt. If you have trouble digesting dairy products, choose soy, rice, or almond substitutes with calcium added.
Plant oils such as grapeseed or olive oil.
Water Staying hydrated is an important part of a healthy diet, and your sense of thirst may weaken as you age.

Eating a nutritious diet has an impact on longevity, cognitive ability, and warding off depression. To help your body age well, it is important to make small steps each day. Basic adjustments include drinking plenty of water rather than coffee, tea, and sugary juices and drinks, and eating plenty of healthy protein foods.
It is also important to eat fresh veggies, in fact eating a vegetable at each meal should be the goal. Remember, half of your plate should be vegetables. This will surely add nutrition to each meal. Vegetables are rich in many important nutrients such as fiber, potassium, vitamins and antioxidants. They are also filling but low in calories.
Adding more fruit to your diet can have significant benefits for overall health. Fruits contain carbohydrates and provide extra fiber that helps keep your digestive system moving. For even more fiber, eat fruits with the skin on — just make sure you wash all fruits and vegetables thoroughly before eating.
Good nutrition is important, no matter what your age however as we age, it should be more of a priority. So, don't forget to eat your fruits and veggies!
