Come with Me to Miami: A Luxurious Stay, Amazing Food and Shopping! Travel Diary Over 50

Updated: Aug 19

Miami is a city that effortlessly combines vibrant culture, stunning beaches, and luxury living. On my recent trip, I had the pleasure of staying at the Mandarin Oriental, an oasis of tranquility in the heart of this bustling city. Join me as I share my experiences, from indulging in delectable cuisine to exploring the city's top shopping destinations and soaking up the sun at Miami Beach.

From the moment I arrived at the Mandarin Oriental, I was enveloped in luxury and serenity. Nestled on Brickell Key, this hotel offers breathtaking views of Biscayne Bay and the Miami skyline. My room was spacious, elegantly designed, and featured a private balcony where I could enjoy stunning sunsets. The service was impeccable, making me feel pampered and well-cared for throughout my stay.

Day One:

My trip started off with a visit to the luxurious Mandarin Spa where I had an indulgent 1 hour and 20 minute HydraFacial. This treatment included a deep cleanse, exfoliation, and painless extractions, followed by blue and red LED light therapy to rejuvenate and refresh. The HydraFacial left my skin feeling smooth, hydrated, and glowing. The serene environment of the spa, combined with the skilled hands of the therapists, made for an incredibly relaxing and rejuvenating experience.

After the relaxing treatment, I spent time lounging by the hotel pool. The infinity pool overlooks Biscayne Bay, offering a serene and picturesque setting. I spent my afternoon soaking up the sun. The poolside service was exceptional, ensuring that I had everything I needed for a relaxing day.

Later that night, my culinary dinner journey included the trendy vibes at Moxies, a vibrant restaurant known for its modern American cuisine. I decided to try their lettuce-wrapped shrimp tacos, and they did not disappoint. The combination of fresh, crisp lettuce with savory fillings was both satisfying and light, making it a perfect meal for a warm Miami night.

Day Two:

No trip to Miami is complete without a visit to Miami Beach. We rented an umbrella and beach chairs and spent time relaxing by the water. After, we strolled along the iconic Collins Avenue. The energy and vibrancy of Miami Beach are truly unmatched, making it a must-visit spot for any traveler.

We made it back to the hotel just in time to rest and eventually dress for our dinner reservations. We headed out for a taste of Italy at Carpaccio. The restaurant is located in the upscale Bal Harbour Shops. For a more upscale shopping experience, Bal Harbour Shops is the place to be. This open-air shopping center is home to luxury brands like Chanel, Gucci, and Prada. I enjoyed window shopping as we waited for our table to be ready.

As someone who is gluten-free, I was thrilled to find that Carpaccio offered delicious

gluten-free pasta options. I enjoyed a delightful salad and for my main course, a plate of penne pasta with rich, flavorful tomato sauce and fresh basil. The dish was cooked to perfection, and the ambiance of the restaurant added to the overall delightful experience.

Day Three:

The final full day in Miami started off with breakfast, dining at Area 31, located on the 16th floor of the EPIC Hotel, this restaurant offers panoramic views of the city and bay. I started my day with their gluten-free pancakes, which were light, fluffy, and accompanied by fresh berries and maple syrup. It was the perfect way to fuel up before a day of shopping.

Speaking of shopping, the first stop after breakfast was Brickell City Centre which offers a mix of high-end and everyday brands, making it a versatile shopping destination. I explored its modern architecture and found some great deals at Zara. It's a perfect spot for both serious shopping and casual browsing.

Next stop was The Miami Design District, a haven for art, fashion, and luxury shopping. I spent hours exploring high-end boutiques, admiring contemporary art installations, and enjoying the district's chic atmosphere. I stopped in the Tory Burch store where I made a few purchases. Whether you're looking for the latest fashion trends or unique art pieces, The Design District has something for everyone.

After a full day of shopping, we headed back to the hotel, rested and eventually changed for dinner reservations at Truluck's restaurant. This was an excellent choice especially for a seafood lover like myself. Dinner was an unforgettable experience. I savored the delectable red snapper, which was cooked to perfection and paired a great salad and a side of their amazing crab rice. The flavors were rich and satisfying, and the restaurant's elegant setting made it a perfect spot for a special evening out. Our server was especially nice and added to a wonderful experience.

My trip to Miami was a perfect blend of luxury, relaxation, good food and adventure. From my stay at the Mandarin Oriental to the spa, culinary delights, the beach and vibrant shopping experiences, every moment was filled with joy and excitement. Whether you're planning a trip for relaxation or exploration, Miami offers a little something for everyone. I can't wait to return to this magical city and create more unforgettable memories.
